CMT Department Manager

Terracon is growing and hiring a Construction Materials Engineering Department Manager in our Colton, CA office! Our Colton office works on exciting projects including bridges and highways, wind farms, commercial buildings and other geotechnical and materials projects.  This position is for a professional engineer who will be responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating construction materials specific work, as well as managing a team of materials project managers for projects varying in size and complexity.  The successful candidate will be experienced in all phases of construction materials testing and previous leadership and management experience.  This position requires numerous business development efforts including client development meetings, proposals, reports to support existing clients and project portfolios that serve to expand our service offerings.    Terracon is a 100 percent employee-owned consulting engineering firm providing quality services to clients. We share your passion.     Essential Role and Responsibilities:    Perform duties as the engineering manager for the Colton office as well as the CMT laboratory. Sound track record of managing a construction materials team and executing on numerous projects simultaneously while continuing to develop future opportunities in the market. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Directs the short-range business development activities of all department personnel to ensure that adequate fees are available to support the manpower on the payroll. Plan for and execute the recruitment, selection, training, mentoring, and development of all employees in the department. Set priorities, assign tasks, and coordinate project staff to meet project targets and milestones. Responsible for resource management, project scheduling, budgets and forecasts, and working with external vendors, subcontractors or contractors.  Conduct client development activities and work with our team to develop a book of business in traditional geotechnical services for southern California. Ability to develop written proposals to clients for both small and large projects. Experienced in evaluating, and synthesizing complex laboratory and field data, and assembly in written reports. Demonstrate a commitment to lead and influence others to follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects for incident and injury free operations. Report any safety issues or concerns to management. Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.  Monitor quality standards and practices.  Participate in professional organizations and networking activities that promote Terracon to clients and the engineering community.     Requirements:   Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, and a minimum of 10 plus years' related experience; Have or be able to acquire certifications in state of California that will include: California Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Civil Engineering Qualification as Engineering Manager under the Division of the State Architects laboratory evaluationprogram. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
